Indiana had a 10-3 lead over No. 1 Ohio State halfway through the second quarter on Saturday. They could’ve played it conservative, and, well, probably should have.
The Hoosiers went for a fake punt on 4th-and-1 from their own 16-yard-line. Punter Erich Toth ran for a grand total of negative three yards.
Indiana was able to bottle up Ohio State and hold them only to a field goal, but wound up losing, 34-27.
It’s not like they can trace not pulling off the upset directly to the fake punt, but it still probably wasn’t the wisest choice.
