Sociologists, psychologists and the odd veterinarian have for years tried to explain the appeal of Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, with tragically little success. But David Letterman hit the nail on the head in a 2010 edition of The Late Show, when he introduced Russo as “The human vuvuzela”.
That’s just perfect. Loud, abrasive, annoying — just like America.
Russo indeed seems to have been put on this Earth just to scream opinions, and that makes him perfect for sports talk radio. Letterman understood this and had him on his show multiple times, just as he did Brother Theodre, Richard Simmons and Larry “Bud” Melman — they were pure entertainment and not to be taken seriously.
