Wait, 92 points? Yep, that’s what Chino Hills (Calif.) sophomore LaMelo Ball put up on Tuesday during his team’s 146-123 victory over Los Osos. The Huskies (26-1) were coming off their first loss in two years, 96-91 to Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill on Saturday. That broke a 60-game win streak.
Some amazing things about Ball’s big night:
* It wasn’t even a Southern Section record for points, let alone a national one. Mesrobian High’s Tigran Grigorian scored 100 points vs. Pacific Christian in 2003. The national record is 135 points by Burnsville (W.Va.) High’s Danny Heater in 1960 — before the invention of the 3-point line, we should point out.
