Washington and its fans will always have something of a perplexing relationship with former QB Billy Joe Hobert.
On the one hand, Hobert stepped in for an injured Mark Brunell and led the Huskies to the 1991 national championship. On the other, he followed it by being the focal point of a scandal that ended his eligibility, rained sanctions on the program and prompted head coach Don James to resign in protest.
Hobert became a career backup in the NFL, spending time with the Raiders, Bills, Saints and Colts before retiring in 2001.
Hobert, his wife and three children live in Southern California where he is involved in Prodigy Athletes, a program for training, tutoring and mentoring young athletes.
