Pursuing a career in freestyle skiing is kind of insane. The trouble is, when you’re as good at launching yourself off the side of a mountain as Gus Kenworthy, you don’t really have much of a choice. Dude came back from Sochi with a silver medal in the Slopestyle event and a huge social media following after alerting the world to Russia’s stray dog epidemic, then he was all like, “Yup, and I’m gay.”
Turns out, he almost came out on a live broadcast during the actual Olympics. Gulp.
“They had warned people that, if you’re gay…try not to show it because it’s very unsafe and not accepted,” Kenworthy told Conan O’Brien.
