David Fletcher Signs Five-Year Extension With Angels

Fletcher has blossomed into a reliable starter for the Angels, and they rewarded him with a five-year extension on Thursday. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports the deal is for $26M, and it also includes two team options that could bring the total value to $41M.

Fletcher made his MLB debut in 2018, and he became a full-time starter for the squad in 2019. He put together his best season at the plate last year, posting a 128 wRC+ over 230 plate appearances. Fletcher doesn’t provide a ton of power — he has just 10 career home runs — but he is capable of getting on base in front of sluggers like Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, and Shohei Ohtani.
