Anyone worried about the impending robot apocalypse should probably steer clear of this story.
Dartmouth football has introduced robotic, remote-controlled tackling dummy “Mobile Virtual Player” (MVP), which according to head coach Buddy Teevens, “allows my guys to tackle the device without injuring ourselves or someone else. The simple repetition of doing a drill like that…will allow them to be more proficient and more successful. Injury reduction is going to be huge for us.”
Obviously allowing players to get in more safe tackling reps is a positive step. It’s just that when artificial intelligence finally does overthrow the human race, Dartmouth football better be ready to take the blame.
