CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs appear to be the clear deadline winners thanks to signing former White Sox leadership guru Drake LaRoche to a contract. The 14-year old will serve as co-manager with Joe Maddon and advise the Cubs on all matters both on and off the field.
“After we acquired Aroldis Chapman and there was talk about the baggage that he brings, I cautioned that no one quite understood the full picture,” said Cubs president Theo Epstein today. “Now today you see it. We brought in Aroldis because we knew we were going to get Drake. Aroldis has had his problems, but with the wise counsel of Drake, and getting to speak with someone like him each day in the clubhouse, we are all confident he can get his life back on track.
