Part of what makes “College GameDay” so great — the de facto greatest pregame show in sports television — is its irreverence. Sports shouldn’t be taken so seriously and few personalities put that into better perspective than the “GameDay” panelists. I mean, Lee Corso puts on a mascot head every week and has gotten tackled by Bill Murray and driven off on a motorcycle with a person in a duck costume on live television.
There’s a time for self-seriousness and the capable Tom Rinaldi brings it in spades, but mostly sports are supposed to be fun and the panels that reflect that ideal the shiniest tend to have the best chemistry and be the most watchable.
