Welcome to Big Man on Campus, a new series where an anonymous recent former Division I football player gives insight into today’s most hot-button topics from his unique, behind-closed-doors perspective.
There’s no bigger issue today in football than concussions, with massive lawsuits being filed, former players facing severe mental problems such as CTE and even suicides as a result. In light of all the controversy around concussions and concussion protocol — most recently, former Cal player Bernard Hicks suing the school for medical malpractice over his concussions — the BMOC offers his two cents on the issue and how players, coaches, doctors and the sport’s culture all contribute to the epidemic.
