LOS ANGELES — Former Duke star Christian Laettner believes he will be used heavily during Team USA’s run at the Summer Olympics in Rio, pointing to a roster that is far less talented than the original Dream Team he played on.
“This team doesn’t have Jordan or Magic,” he said. “It doesn’t even have LeBron or Steph Curry. This is my time to really step forward and show that I belong.”
Laettner averaged 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game and appeared in every contest as Team USA won gold in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Then he was a 22 year-old college product.
