The Washington Capitals may be forced to start their third-string goalie again and be without their second-line center when they meet the Bruins for Game 3 in Boston on Wednesday.

Vitek Vanecek left Game 1 against the Bruins on Saturday after sustaining a lower-body injury. Vanecek stopped just three of four shots in 13:10 of ice time before being replaced by Craig Anderson. Anderson started Tuesday’s Game 2 loss for the 25-year-old, and the fact Vanecek has still not skated since the injury does not bode well for his Game 3 status.
Ilya Samsonov was removed from the COVID protocol list on Saturday but scratched from the lineup.
