Newton was participating in 11-on-11 drills when the mishap happened and made one more throw after the incident. According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, the former Carolina Panther was looking for swelling around the knuckle of his right index finger before heading over to the trainers. After Newton exited, Mac Jones and Jarrett Stidham rotated reps with the No. 1 offense for the rest of the session. Cam did not return to practice after sustaining the injury, and missing any substantial time could open the door for Jones to compete for the starter’s role for Week 1.
