Cam Newton watched the Panthers’ 10-point lead at halftime dwindle to a surging Broncos squad that won the 2016 NFL season opener 21-20. Understandably, the Carolina quarterback wasn’t doing much smiling as he watched his team lose and was continually rocked by the hard-hitting Denver defense.
So then why was Newton caught flossing his teeth on the sidelines in the second half?
Unlike his press conference after the Super Bowl where mum was the word, the Carolina signal-caller was very forthcoming with why he was practicing good dental hygiene on the sidelines.
“I was eating oranges at halftime,” Newton said according to USA Today Sports.
