Brian Elliott will start in net for the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, Joe Smith of The Athletic reports.
Elliott will be up against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. Andrei Vasilevskiy will be in net Sunday versus the Vancouver Canucks. Elliott has given the Lightning precisely what they wanted in a backup goaltender. He has a 2.46 goals-against average, and a .907 save percentage in 11 games. He won’t start any playoff games or games of importance, but that’s not his job; that is why they have Vasilevskiy.
The Lightning are currently in second place in the Atlantic Division, five points behind the Carolina Hurricanes.
