Bettor Puts $3,000 on Stanford (100-1) to Win National Championship

One college football bettor will probably be out three grand in a few months. Then again, he or she could be up $297,000 if Stanford holds up its end of the bargain.

According to ESPN’s Chalk Points, “The MGM Mirage took a $3,000 bet on Stanford at 100-1 to win the national championship from a house player in August.”

Could the No. 21 Cardinal do it? Maybe — they have the fifth-toughest schedule in the Pac-12, but face all but one ranked opponent (USC) at home — but probably not.

The same bettor put $1,750 on Boise State at 175-1, which is some hedge.
