Mitch Moreland will be staying put in California, but not with the San Diego Padres. Today, the Oakland Athletics signed him to a one-year deal worth $2.25 million according to Chris Cotillo of masslive.com.
Moreland spent the second half of last season with the Padres after the Boston Red Sox traded his expiring contract following a blistering start.
The Mississippi native hit .328 with eight home runs and 21 RBI’s in 22 games with Boston but cooled off with the Padres — hitting only .203 with two home runs and eight RBI’s in 20 games.
Perhaps a return to the American League will suit Moreland better, considering that it was the only league he played in before joining the Padres.
