Per a press release from the Worcester County District Attorney, the shocking death of Aaron Hernandez in a Lancaster, Massachusetts prison cell has been confirmed as a suicide by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Henry N. Nields, who performed an autopsy on Wednesday and concluded that the cause of death was asphyxia by hanging.
The release contains further details regarding the circumstances surrounding Hernandez’s suicide, including the fact that there were no signs of a struggle, and that he was alone at the time of the hanging – with a cardboard box jamming the tracks of his cell door.
