Bill Simmons and ESPN look headed for a very messy divorce.
On Wednesday, Simmons appeared on Colin Cowherd's radio show, where he discussed LeBron James and the Cavs, the future of the Patriots, and a number of other topics in a wide-ranging segment. Today on the Mike & Mike show, host Mike Golic played a brief clip from the Cowherd interview (Simmons said LeBron's latest displays in Cleveland reminded him 'a tiny bit' of Albert Pujols once he was traded from St. Louis to Los Angeles), then used it to attack Simmons:
“I think it’s one of the most ridiculous statements I’ve heard four games into a season in my life in any sport,” said Mike Golic. “That’s what I’ll say about Bill Simmons. So, you know, he grabbed a headline, which is something I know he loves — and that’s one of the most ridiculous lines I’ve ever heard in any sport in my life. Four games into a season. I don’t even … that’s ridiculous.”
Simmons did not respond lightly:
Here's a link to the article on The Big Lead that goes further in depth with Golic's comments.
ESPN suspended Simmons for several weeks this summer after he called NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a liar on his podcast, then dared his bosses to suspend him. Simmons is rumored to be leaving the company when his contract expires in 2015, and this certainly won't help their increasingly messy relationship.
