West Valley City appoints interim chief as head of police, making her one of the few Utah women leading a police force

Interim Chief Colleen Jacobs will go before the council for ratification Tuesday night, the city announced in a news release. She has filled in as head of the department since Sept. 8.

Jacobs has spent her entire 21-year career with West Valley City police, serving in a variety of roles ranging from patrol to deputy chief.

The Utah native attended Tooele High School before graduating with a bachelor’s in criminal justice from Weber State University, the release said.
