Utah punter Mitch Wishnowsky was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers early in the the fourth round Saturday morning.
Wishnowsky’s becoming the 110th pick in the NFL draft is a remarkably high position for a kicking specialist. The 49ers were known to be one of the few teams in need of a punter, as former Ute punter Tom Hackett – Wishnowsky’s Australian countryman – pointed out in a Salt Lake Tribune story this week.
Wishnowsky apparently was chosen over Stanford's Jake Bailey, another highly regarded punter. Wishnowsky was a three-time Ray Guy Award finalist (and the 2016 winner) and is Utah's first three-time football All-American.
