Utah women keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive, hold off Washington State 75-67 in home finale

The Utah women’s basketball team kept its hopes for an NCAA tournament bid alive by beating Washington State 75-67 Sunday afternoon at the Huntsman Center.

The undermanned Utes, who lost another player to injury Friday and were down to only seven in uniform, jumped out to a 13-point lead in the third quarter. But that advantage dwindled down to only a point before Utah (20-7, 9-7) held on for the Pac-12 win.

Washington State (9-18, 4-12) led the contest 39-38 early in the third when the Utes went on a 14-4 run. But the Cougars chipped away and trailed just 66-65 in the closing minutes when freshman center Andrea Torres hit a bucket inside and then followed that with a three-pointer.
