A Utah teacher has been charged with kidnapping after she allegedly took a 6-year-old autistic girl on a walk without the permission of the school or the child's mother.
The 49-year-old suspect, a teacher at Fox Hollow Elementary School in West Jordan, was charged Monday in Third District Court with child kidnapping, a first-degree felony.
According to a probable cause statement, the mother reported to police Sept. 4 that the child — who is “autistic and mostly non-verbal” — did not return home from school. The mother went to the school, and notified school officials. Another teacher found the suspect and the girl and “brought them both back to the school.
