Utah State is prepared to hire South Dakota’s Craig Smith as the school’s basketball coach after he visited the campus Sunday, sources told The Salt Lake Tribune.
Smith’s status as the Aggies’ top target to replace Tim Duryea was first reported Saturday by ESPN and NBC Sports.
The Tribune had learned that Smith would not accept the job without coming to Logan. On Sunday, flightaware.com showed a private plane owned by Cache Valley Electric flying to Logan from Sioux Falls, S.D., not far from the South Dakota campus in Vermillion, and immediately going back to Logan. The company is a major booster of USU.
