Teenager charged with bringing explosives to Utah high school

A Hurricane teenager who was accused of bringing homemade explosives to Pine View High School earlier this month was charged Monday.

Washington County prosecutors filed a first-degree-felony charge each of attempted murder and possession of a weapon of mass destruction, KUTV reported.

The 16-year-old was also accused of vandalizing an American flag and replacing it with an Islamic State flag. For that, he has been charged with graffiti, a class A misdemeanor, and abuse of the flag, a class B misdemeanor.

The teenager had set fire to pieces of paper, which allegedly were meant to ignite homemade explosives in his backpack March 5.
