The Lewis Prize for Music, a new philanthropic organization focused on fostering music education and career development in young people, announced its first slate of winners Tuesday. The $1.75 million will be awarded to the leaders of nine organizations in eight states.
The prize, which is split into three categories and includes both long-term and single-year support, was founded in 2019 by philanthropist Daniel Lewis.
“My vision is to ensure opportunities to learn, perform and create music are available to all young people,” said Lewis in a statement. “Ideally, this would be happening in every school, but that isn’t the case, especially in low-income and historically marginalized communities.
