Every collegiate athletic program has its flagship sports. Utah's are football, men's basketball and women's gymnastics.
Yet among the points driven home this week after the death of track and field athlete Lauren McCluskey is there’s much more to Utah’s program — and those of other schools — than the high-profile sports. The tragedy shook the entire athletic department and resonated across the campus and beyond.
Ute athletic director Mark Harlan's observation that the Utes should think of themselves are one team, not 20 teams, will stick with me. The way Utah's other athletes and teams are honoring McCluskey is admirable.
