Sandy • Real Salt Lake's back in the win column.
On a splendid sun-filled Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium, RSL topped the visiting Philadelphia Union 1-0. RSL improved to 4-8-2 (14 points) ahead of its two-game trip to Texas next week.
Joao Plata scored first goal of the year in the 36th minute. Plata combined with new signing Jefferson Savarino atop the Philadelphia box and once Plata slipped a pass through the Union back line Savarino picked his head up and sent a cross back to the center of the box.
There, Plata ran onto the pass from 5 yards out to put RSL up 1-0.
