SEATTLE (Saturday, May 20, 2017) – Real Salt Lake (3-8-2, 11 pts) suffered its fifth road loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 at Century Link Field in downtown Seattle against the defending MLS Cup champion Sounders.
With a new-look 4-4-2 formation featuring a flat midfield and 2017 RSL draft picks Reagan Dunk and Justin Schmidt on the outside in the back, RSL’s first 45 minutes saw limited possession, Seattle outshooting RSL, 11-1, GK Nick Rimando forced into four saves. Seattle peppered the RSL back line with wave after wave of attacking opportunities, Seattle taking the lead in the 42nd-minute on a deflected strike from Sounders MF Harry Shipp.
