Multiple people were shot and killed at a Walmart in El Paso on Saturday afternoon, sending shoppers inside and at a local mall racing for cover in a chaotic scene that prompted a massive police and medical response, local authorities and government officials said.
Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick told Fox News that a 21-year-old man is in custody in connection with the shooting, which unfolded in the area of Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso. As many as 20 people are dead, Patrick said.
Authorities said around 3 p.m. Eastern time that there were was no longer an active threat.
