Pyeongchang, South Korea • There was a fall and two bobbles on the ice, a bit of hesitation off a jump and the hope and prayer that a brand new trick would work out.
The day started with disappointment for figure skater Nathan Chen, a Salt Lake native, after he had trouble in his individual short program at the Gangneung Ice Arena. And it ended with Park City’s Madison Olsen smiling and laughing after trying a brand new jump in the finals of the women’s aerial competition.
“It was rough,” said Chen, the 18-year-old figure skater who arrived in South Korea with gold-medal aspirations.
