Authorities in Salt Lake City have filed an assault charge against a 40-year-old man who they say stabbed someone outside a downtown smoke shop.
Prosecutors said Thursday that Isaac Michael Terry got into a fist fight after asking someone for a cigarette in March. Terry allegedly stabbed the man, puncturing his lung and causing other injuries.
Police say Terry told them he had been taking medication for schizophrenia but was off it at the time of the fight, which may have contributed to the stabbing.
A police officer responding to the scene said he found Terry sitting on the floor inside the shop near a bloody folding knife.
