Ballot results released Thursday in Salt Lake City’s tight mayoral race show Sen. Luz Escamilla pulling ahead of former Sen. Jim Dabakis for the crucial second-place spot.
The results represent the largest share of the ballots, though Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen said there more results were expected to come in Friday at 3 p.m.
Early primary election results Tuesday left Salt Lake City Councilwoman Erin Mendenhall feeling confident she would make it through to November’s primary — but it was unclear who would pick up the second-place spot to run against her. Escamilla loomed close behind Dabakis, with just 109 votes separating the two as of election night.
