There may be an alternative to banning assault weapons and still protect our children: Hire a cadre of armed guards placed in every school.
To pay for the guards, impose a tax on the purchase of all assault weapons sufficient to cover the costs.
In this manner, we maintain people’s right to purchase and own assault weapons while those who benefit from assault weapons pay the cost of protecting our children.
