Letter: God can’t protect churches from shooters

I can agree with my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) on every issue except gun control.

Everyone knows that criminals don’t follow rules. Everyone knows that no one is checking for guns at the front doors. Everyone knows that putting big “gun free zone” signs on churches isn’t going to keep criminals out. In fact, it has quite the opposite effect. It’s an invitation for criminals.

Everyone knows that the LDS Church does not pay for security guards to keep their members safe. God can only do so much. Instead of expecting him to keep us all safe, shouldn’t we use some logic and secure our meeting houses?
