Late goal lifts Utah Royals FC over the Chicago Red Stars for third 1-0 win in a row

Sandy • After 80-plus minutes of scoreless soccer, and a Chicago Red Stars team playing the entire second half down a player, the Utah Royals FC squeezed out a 1-0 victory Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium for their third consecutive win.

In the 84th minute, Gunnhildur Jonsdottir had to slide to get a pass from midfielder Erika Tymrak over to forward Amy Rodriguez, who was making a run into the 18-yard box. Rodriguez also had to slide just to get the ball, but her touch on it was enough to get it past her defender and Chicago’s goalkeeper for the goal.
