A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed against Salt Lake City by the family of an unarmed Utah man who was fatally shot by a city police officer in 2014.
The judge ruled to dismiss the case Friday, saying that because the Salt Lake City officer didn’t violate any laws or constitutional rights by shooting and killing Dillon Taylor, the city can’t be held liable for the officer’s conduct.
Taylor’s family filed the lawsuit against Salt Lake City in October 2015, just more than a year after Taylor, 20, was killed outside a convenience store near 2100 South and State Street.
