Washington • The historic move to impeach President Donald Trump began as expected — with a motion by Republicans to adjourn. It failed, as expected.
As the House brought up articles of impeachment for the first time in nearly 21 years, and only the third time in history, members of Congress took turns portraying the very partisan divide that defines the nation’s capital these days.
Democrats argued the dire need to impeach Trump over his abuse of power and obstruction of Congress while Republicans countered that the effort was rigged and unfair and driven solely by the left’s anger over the president.
