Douglas Martinez and Honduras got off to a fast start in their first match of the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Friday afternoon, defeating Haiti 3-0 to earn the crucial three points.
The Real Salt Lake forward started the match for his home country and played the first 45 minutesbefore subbing off at halftime in a match that was all but decided at the break.
Honduras broke through Haiti’s line of defense in the 14th minute when Darixon Vuelto hammered in a penalty kick that slipped right through the fingers of the Haitian goalkeeper.
Just four minutes later Edwin Rodriguez ran onto a ball played over the top of the defensive line, beating out the goalkeeper with a kick to the lower right-corner to double the lead.
