BYU is heading to the West Coast Conference tournament with a little bit of momentum after snapping its two-game losing streak with a hard-fought 87-73 win over San Diego on Saturday night at the Marriott Center.
TJ Haws and Yoeli Childs combined for 55 points and Nick Emery aded 15 as the Cougars improved to 11-5 in WCC play, 19-12 overall. San Diego fell to 7-9 and 18-13.
The Cougars were cruising in the second half with a 20-point lead with just under 10 minutes remaining before the Toreros (7-9, 18-13) mounted a furious comeback. They cut the deficit to 79-73 with just over two minutes remaining, but the Cougars made just enough free throws to escape with the win.
