The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the state, with daytime temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s and low 100s through Tuesday.
Residents should feel some relief when the sun goes down with overnight temperatures dipping into upper 60s and mid 70s.
As temperatures increase, so does the risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for senior citizens and other vulnerable populations. Health officials encourage residents to drink plenty of water, check on family, friends and neighbors and limit exposure to the sun.
Those who work outside also should take frequent breaks when temperatures are at their peak.
