The gravity of the challenge was palpable. If the Utah women’s basketball team wanted to prove what they were made of — really prove it — Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the No. 6 Stanford Cardinals would definitely help.
The game went down to the wire, but it was Erika Bean who provided the saving 3-pointer that gave the Utes the lead with less than a minute to play. Drew Gylten’s transition layup put the game out of reach and gave Utah a 75-68 win, snapping the Cardinals' 11-game winning streak and increasing their own to six.
Bean led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 5 of 8 from the 3-point line.
