Real Salt Lake has promoted Dane Murphy to technical director from his scouting position, the club announced in a press release today.
Murphy, who played professionally with New York Cosmos and second-division German side Vfl Osnabrück, joined RSL last year as a scout, where he worked with head scout Andy Williams. After Murphy’s playing career ended, he worked with the Cosmos as a scout.
In the club-issued release, Waibel, who is directly above Murphy in the chain of command, said his multidisciplinary abilities played a significant role in his hiring.
“Dane has demonstrated an ability to fit in quickly with our culture and understands what each club needs, not only on the field but also in the community,” said Waibel, noting that further staff additions and role definitions will be announced during the preseason.
