Las Vegas • BYU’s women’s basketball team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.
The Cougars made it official on Tuesday afternoon, routing Gonzaga 82-68 in the West Coast Conference tournament championship game at Orleans Arena. Second-seeded BYU (25-6) beat top-seeded Gonzaga (28-4) for the third time, handing the No. 12 Zags three of their four losses this season.
BYU will learn its NCAA Tournament destination next Monday as the automatic qualifier from the WCC. Gonzaga, ranked No. 12 in the AP Top 25, will also make the tournament but quite likely lost its opportunity to host first- and second-round games.
