Real Salt Lake’s newest player, Alex Horwath, presents an interesting alternative to the established pecking order for goalkeepers at the club.
Horwath certainly looks like a Nick Rimando backup, but as a 30-year-old goalkeeper, he may just be entering the prime of his career.
Despite playing in Europe the last several years, Horwath came from the D.C. United academy, played intermittently with MLS teams, landing last with New York Red Bulls, moved to USL, then landed a switch to Europe, where he played with Swedish side Ljungskile SK and Norwegian side SK Brann.
