The Women's World Cup gets underway tomorrow in Canadaland, a fantastical place of poutine and legal Cuban Cigars. The 2011 Women's World Cup was quite popular around here, and this one should be 50% more popular because the field has expanded from 16 to 24 teams. Also, the United States has a legitimate chance to win this World Cup as opposed to the men's team last year.
We also have a Purdue connection! former women's soccer player Lauren Sesselmann plays for the Canadian National Team. Even though she was born in Wisconsin before playing at Purdue from 2001 to 2005, she gained Canadian citizenship through father and has been a member of the National Team since 2011.
