In Beijing and London she was Kara Patterson, but in the last few years since London 2012 she got married to discus and shot put thrower Russ Winger. She is still awesome at taking a long, pointy stick and throwing it as far as she can.
At the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials Winger was leading through the preliminaries with a throw of 61.42 meters. That was just barely short of the automatic qualifying standard of 62 meters. Tonight in the finals she finished third with a throw of 57.9 meters, which was still good enough to punch a ticket to Rio.
