For better or worse, Sharon Versyp is planning on returning next season as head coach of Purdue women’s basketball. It will be her 13th season at the helm, but our once proud program is a shell of itself. Versyp’s teams have not moved beyond the second round of the NCAA Tournament since 2009. She has yet to win a regular season Big Ten championship and they have not won the Big Ten Tournament since 2012. The “Second Round Sharon” moniker is apt, as Purdue has only made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2017.
