Purdue (30-21, 7-11 Big Ten) snatched a Wednesday night victory thanks to two usual suspects: first baseman Ashley Burkhardt and pitcher Lilly Fecho. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Burkhardt connected with an off-speed pitch, drilling the ball over the right field wall for a two-run home run.
Burkhardt's shot was all the Boilers would need offensively. Why? Because Fecho pitched her first career no-hitter. If there hadn't been a dropped ball on a put-out at first base, Fecho would have had a perfect game.
But that was Indiana State, a meddling team from the Missouri Valley Conference.
