A few years ago Purdue was pretty bad when it came to track and field. Now, under coach Lonnie Greene they are competing for conference championships and national titles. The women were the runner-up during the indoor season and finished fourth today in the outdoor meet with 87 points. They trailed Michigan and Minnesota, who tied for the conference title with 106 points, and Nebraska (94). The men were banged up at the Big Ten indoor meet, but were excellent at the outdoor meet in scoring 87 points to finish third behind Nebraska (140.5) and Michigan (90.5).
Among the highlights for Purdue:
- Chukwuebuka Enekwechi repeated as the Big Ten champion in the Hammer throw and finished second in the weight throw.
